The Company:


Ethiopian Shipping Lines S.C. is the only company involved in sea freight activity in the country. The company, in its long sea transportation service manage to build a reputation of reliability, efficiency and good service. It gives a liner service in North Continent and Mediterranean route, Far East route, Arabian Gulf route and Indian Sub Continent route. It also gives a Cross Trade service mostly from Europe to Red sea and Gulf ports.

Management:

The Management and Operation of the Company is conducted on a purely commercial basis with full management and operational autonomy. The ESLSC, run by Board of Directors is entrusted with the duty to decide on and direct the Company's policy and related matters. The Managing Director, was appointed by the Board of Directors, is the Chief Executive responsible for planning and executing the policies and management of the Company. Presently, the Managing Director with his contemporaries is bringing into being the need to change and improve its trend modernizing the strength, skill and equipment under the market oriented investment policy of the country.

Manpower:

Employees of the ESLSC comprise of shore-based staff and the sea going personnel working on board ships in different ranks and positions. All staff members intend to improve their market share and cultivate the sophisticated area of shipping lines. To achieve this great success, their motto has become to think big to achieve big and act with confidence that they are able to venture into far greater avenue more than the normal expectation. As a matter of fact, ESLSC is nothing else but a Company that contains people who say "We believe in giving our customers the best value, for our success depends on their support and trust. We are committed to consistently providing reliable and friendly service, completing every job on time and performing our duties efficiently." Many of the top and middle level management groups have training in advanced ship management and operations. Each personnel also value loyalty and dedication. Every one is believed to maintain high standard of discipline and work cohesively as a team.

Shipboard officers and ratings are qualified and certificated in accordance with the requirements of STCW95. The seagoing personnel training and certification process has been further boosted, as Ethiopia has been recognized as "White List" country by IMO for giving complete and full effect to the STCW 95. This has laid down a strong basis for continued manning of our ships with competent and fully qualified personnel. Thanks to their personal commitment to safety and readiness to ensure safe working environment ESLSC has become a long-standing operator in the Ethiopian sea borne trade.

Service Routes:

Forty years ago ESLSC launched its first service along the UK/North and West Europe route, which was then major direction of the country's import and export trade. In the course of its development the Company has further expanded its service to include the Mediterranean, Adriatic, the Far East areas, Gulf regions and the Red Sea in view of the growing traffic movements on these routes. At present ESLSC that has effective agency networks in all its trading areas for assisting shippers from Ethiopia or abroad in arranging and consolidating their shipments, uses the port of Djibouti as its base and provides liner services to specified ports on regular sailing schedules subject to sufficient inducement. The Company's ships also call at other ports en route. Besides its former and current fleet, ESLSC has made agreement on slot charter arrangement, with a number of other shipping companies such as Maersk Sealand, P&O NedLloyed, APL, PIL, NYK, and Hyundai etc. Such a global practice enables ESLSC to give a weekly service for containerized & RO/RO shipment from any of its trading routes.

Cargo Lifting and Finance:

ESLSC from the time of its inception had to pass through lots of challenges and cope up with a highly demanding and dynamic international shipping business environment. Despite stiff competitions, ESLSC has achieved fame in bringing the volume of cargo and of course total income and profit of the company to a satisfactory level. More over, building on past tradition, ESLSC is committed to avail itself of the new situation to develop a capacity entirely tailored to satisfying customer's needs.

ESLSC, which has recently acquired two more vessels(Shebele and Gibe), looks ahead to serve its esteemed customers at an even larger and better scale, and is always vigilant to provide efficient, prompt and dependable service.
