PM Meles Zenawi received the first professional maritime engineering cadets at his office in March 22nd 2011. The PM remarked that he is very proud of the effort shown by the cadets during their stay in the Maritime Training Academy in Ethiopia and in Israel. The PM also said that producing capable professionals in the field of maritime is vital to support the economic development of the country and enhance its competitiveness. ESL Managing Director Ato Ambachew Abraha said intensifying the activities in the maritime business is needed to help Ethiopia speed up development and create job opportunities. According to Ato Ambachew Creating employment for the young educated Ethiopians in the international educational institutions in the country. The establishment of EMTI is, therefore, very much in line with the strategies of Capacity Building and Economic Development of the Government of Ethiopia and ESLSC is of the opinion that this is an opportunity which should be tapped.
